The minimum wage in Ukraine
On July 1, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada adopted Law №3482 'On Amendments to Article 8 of the Law of Ukraine' On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2020 ' on raising the minimum wage to the amount of actual subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons '. Its authors are Yulia Tymoshenko, M. Tsymbalyuk and others.
As explained by lawmakers, Art. 9 of the Law 'On Remuneration of Labor' provides that the minimum wage is set at a level not lower than the subsistence level for able-bodied persons. At the same time, the State Budget 2020 approved the amount of the minimum wage below this amount. Thus, in March 2020, the actual subsistence level for able-bodied persons was UAH 4,884, which is UAH 161 or 3.4% more than the approved minimum wage.
Given this, the law sets a minimum wage in 2020:
- in the monthly amount: from July 1 - 5238 hryvnias, from October 1 - 5359 hryvnias;
- in an hourly rate: from July 1 - UAH 31.39, from October 1 - UAH 32.11.
We will remind that earlier the minimum wage was approved for 2020 in the amount of 4723 hryvnias, in hourly - 28.31 hryvnias.
The law came into force on July 1, 2020.
